This is my post after a long break, let me continue with what I had promised earlier......all about information security triad....
As you might be aware or may be not, that the information security triad concentrates on confidentiality, integrity & availability. This is exactly what we try to achieve by placing security controls for all necessary information that requires to be protected.
The information could be in your HDD / may be in transit, in all these cases it is important to maintain....
1) Confidentiality --- Unauthorised users should not gain anything if the protected information gets into their hands. How to achieve this...Cryptography. To read more on this please follow this link
2) Integrity --- The information sent and received must not been compromised / manipulated, that is where data integrity plays a major role. Using one way hashing algorithms information can be prevented from being tampered.
3) Availability -- Making sure the information is available to legitimate users whenever there is a requirement for the same. As they say "Information is most secure when there is no access to it!!!" Which in reality cannot be put into practice. Hence inspite of all the threats that exists, the information must be available for all those legitimate users.
The story continues...about the technology that provides these functionality....

"Information Security" is no more a jargon, is the least to say about how security has been interpreted by people across different spectrum. From passwords / ATM pins / access cards / biometrics / VPN / Antivirus /firewalls are all becoming part of our lifestyle.
The recent acquistions by Majors such as IBM acquiring ISS, Cisco acquiring Ironport, Tipping Point acquired by 3Com are typical examples of large organisations trying to be part of the growing security industry. Due to evolving threats, the business solutions, productivity, accelerated performance are all now being associated with security. Top brass of all big corporate houses are all ears to their respective InfoSec Managers, understanding & deploying technology to enhance security.
Solution providers, system intergrators are all cashing in to reap benefits, highly demanding skill force / better perks does attract individuals. Information Security awareness among all IT professionals are nowadays necessary to produce products with less exploitable loopholes!!!
My next post will be do understand the components that maketh security triad, do look forward to it.

Having meticulously planned the BR Hills trip with adequate information on hand, everybody is looking forward to it. With whatever I have read, this place at an altitude of 3500ft above sea level & less than 200kms from Mysore offers a wide range of fauna & flora as a treat to this less urban mortals.
The kind of picturesque landscape spreading across Karnataka & Tamil Nadu, will be a real treat to the eyes. BR Hills Jungle Lodges & Resorts are going to be our paid host, look forward in this columns for more info on our trip.

From the moment I entered Kamaraj Memorial Hall, Chennai on that memorable evening it was all about music @ its best, to say the least. Large number of people had gathered to witness one of most talented artists performing live!! in the very backyard of Chennai. People of different kinds, from chennai's very own mamis' to the latest lipsticked, perfume bathed women accompanied by fellow guardians, an experience to remember.
This being the first live concert (Shakti) Iam witness to,didn't want to miss anything at all. Most admired part of this concert was one could enjoy the sound thru the feel/warmth it creates, even without knowing the so called nuances. Sound of the mandolin was the highlight, due to the way stringed instruments sound esp when playing "gamakas"--sustained notes. I did not understand ragas / thalams but I could feel the rhythm & enjoy the melody.
The only regret was I forgot to take my camera, it would have been a fulfilling exp to see Shrinivas' fingering on the mandolin even from some 25 rows behind. Finally when the curtains came down, felt that I had made an evening worth it.

Too much of anything is always not good, that is exactly what our media is doing. India had never ever been a great cricket team, but somehow the media for its own advantage always created huge hype. The smallest of information were blown out of propotions, the reality was always missing.
Good example of this is our Indian Cricket Team / Tennis player Sania Mirza. Let me try to bring out a few points to put things in prespective....
## India always boasted of talented players but nobody was able realise that into winning matches. Look at the line up Azhar, Kapil , sachin, g.viswanath, ravi shastri, vengsarkar, saurav, sidhu but no body was consistent. Among this lineup latest one in huge fan following is ofcourse Sachin, but everybody knows tendulkar never performed well in demanding situations!!!
Sania attracts more people with her looks than her game, with her poor fitness it was just too much of hype. This was evident in her final with Hingis in Kolkata recently. One cannot blame the players entirely, if people sought their attention. Indian Media must realise that reality counts more than anything else, it was embarrasing to see India perform at an international arena, but the kind of attention they receive was oh! My god, appalling. ##
Interviews / discussions / nicely presented with attractive english speaking audience, reality was never a requirement for them. It was all about creating marketing gimmicks!!!

Something struck me, no not the thunderstorm that blasted away the chennai skies, but an idea or I would say a thought.
I was trying to understand the cause of a storm, the weather / forecast / meteorology, they were all really fascinating to understand. I should say it was awesome!!!, I was just hooked to it for over 7 hours, in the end it was worth the effort
But wasn't I talking about an Idea??? Yeah (a gentle smile), It is to make use of volunteers to help us get information about natural happenings in a region. An open environment in understanding natural science ( Weather / climate / natural resources / environmental conditions or whatever) which in-turn could help predict events. If you find it difficult to put together the pieces....here is an example....
Imagine knowing about the locality / weather conditions / any such information where ur friend lives that could help us in predicting events which in turn could directly affect our environment. Imagine these volunteers as probes situated across the globe sending vital information for analysis about the smallest of events.
Everybody brings in information to put together resulting in the puzzle getting completed. The puzzle could be anything ranging from weather forecasting / protection of natural resource / sharing experiences / picking up new hobbies / learning a new skill. I am seeing a world that is REALLY INTERACTING for a better rich experience.
Let me start rolling the ball soon .....

"An Idea", is what it takes to make a breakthrough. I just that did that, you are not getting it??? This is the book I bought recently, it talks about innovation in terms of business logic, new approach to catering customer need. It opens ones' mind to look at things differently to a problem be it customer needs or whatever and I feel can be applied in other fields too.
It is really interesting...starts with Orange's strategy how it inspires the company's work force to cater to customer demands.

Happen to see the movie fanaa, with all those "shayari" from Aamir Khan I somehow got hooked to it. It was difficult to understand & it continues to be so still Iam trying to understand a few of those. In due course I came to know so many people who understand and appreciate shayaris, which was really amazing. I had started learning & hope to be comfortable enough to appreciate it, when i hear it the next time.

This is about the law in place by the TamilNadu government about "People of all casts can become priests with necessary training".
What does this convey....Idea behind this law would be to give access to all people a chance to prove themself in this field also. It also makes me think may be because of the ruling govt, a way to supress the domination of brahmins in this field.
Whatever is it really making our life any better?

"Game of Life" fascinated me, and this is what I found....
Game of Life works / evolves with this strategy
Any live cell with fewer than two neighbours dies, as if by loneliness. Any live cell with more than three neighbours dies, as if by overcrowding. Any live cell with two or three neighbours lives, unchanged, to the next generation. Any dead cell with exactly three neighbours comes to life. ---Copied & pasted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conway%27s_Game_of_Life
It was so cool the way it gets evolved. Keep exploring....

It was fascinating after completing a few assignments successfully. It was also nice to meet & look forward to meeting relatives after a long time. After all this joyous moments there was also moments of introspection on a few social issues that have been making rounds since few weeks.
I would attempt to bring in some clarity on these since lot of misconceptions are arising always whenever discussed about...
"Reservation in Higher Education" "No caste bar for TN priests" --- More on this in the later posts.....
"Reservation in Higher Education" ... Is this a real problem??? If yes what is it???? People assume that if a percentage of seats are allocated to specific classes of society, then that might bring down the quality. Quality in terms of the skills possessed by individuals who come out as professionals after completion of the course. And there is also another argument which is..."What about those students deserved to be selected but not, due to reservation??"
What is the solution???
The problem must be addressed keeping in mind both the sections of the society. It is important to understand the underlying cause behind reservation ...There are sections of the society who deserve to be uplifted from the backward economic status to a level where they can compete with the other sections of the society.
Everybody understands that to fulfill this requirement the only solution is to provide better education from the grass-root level. Agreed!!! but what about the current generation, that is where reservation comes in....For what ever reasons it may be the part of the society that is deprived of a chance need to be raised to the level where they also think they can compete. Reservation helps in providing a good platform for that individual who wants to excel and deserve to be counted as a good product.
Coming back to the argument posted about the quality of the professionals going down because of "Reservation".....Is the current educational system (esp. higher education) really churning out quality professionals???
Assuming the answer is "yes", then whoever it is from whichever section of the society, will be automatically selected or eliminated just based upon the individuals' skill learnt during the course. Assuming the answer is "no", then no one should bother about the quality going down because of reservation.
The argument about deserving students being left out, that is a cause of concern, but one cannot satisfy everybody always. May be each one of us has to think how deprived were they (other sections), it is a humane decision, that is where maturity comes in. People must be mature enough to understand, and esp nowadays youngsters are more mature to be able to make a change.
Throw in more thoughts on this, may be we could get a solution that might change things in a positive way

I was in office when listening to these two songs "Kaaadhal Kavidhaigal padithidum neram...." from Gopura Vasalilae && "Poongadhave thaz theravai...", I just was wondering how important it is to sing well. When you have lot of people in your family who sings so well, and you just end up listening to them rather than join, is really frustrating.
Those two songs were so good to listen, one actually gets attracted towards it, that is where I started to hum, finally it has to be stopped. what to do, everybody around started moving out of the room :(

Argentina won !!! My favourite Football team since the days of Caludia Cannigia / Batistuta / Maradona, and now riquelme called the "playmaker", Crespo, Sorin, & the new kid on the block Messi known as the next maradona!!!
What a match it was, first one was against Ivory Cost which boasts of the dangerous Drogba, Argentina played good attacking game & hence was thru (2-1). Then was the game against [S&M] Serbia & Montenegro (this is one of the country born due to the division of former yugoslavia), for more information visit this link... http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/yi.html Coming back to Argentina they won 6-0 against [S&M]!!!
Highlights of the match....... 1) S&M had conceded only 1 goal during the qualifiers!!! Here they are....losing 6-0 to Argentina 2) The goal by cambiasso was the due to the effort of 24 consecutive passes which in itself is an example of the qualities possessed by Argentina (Patience / Concentration / Understanding among teammates)
Fantastic display of skills, I am really finding it difficult to express the quality of this team. My favourite team is on the fore front to challenge Brazil.
Expect more in these columns on Argentina!!!

I was wondering what exactly interests oneself in day - to -day activities ....
During childhood....toys / new waterbottle / new pencil box / new pencils!! / evening cricket /friday "Oliyum Oliyum" (Sound & light)--- (beautifully coined phrase)/HEMAN series, Superman series, Giant Robot, sunday evening movie..."I still could remember the whole area will plunge into silence from 5:30pm onwards, with each & every household will watching the movie telecast by DoorDarshan, amazing isn't it!!!!
During College.... Showing off with newly acquired skills like "going to browsing center" /computers / movies / new bikes / bitu padam ;) / debonair mags / girl friends !!!
After College ... Joining a big MNC / getting a big pay packet / house / car / marriage / travelling / pub / discos/
If you had observed closely all these factors somewhere or other, knowingly or unknowingly have certainly influenced our lives. What is true happiness, sometimes when alone I used to think what it means like true happiness. Are these above mentioned factors really make oneself happy or are we pretending to be so?? It is subjective to an individual, but still how do we generically define happiness???
Lets have an attempt.......

Gentoo linux -->http://www.gentoo.org<-- , the name was a news to me as was its features... "Portage && Emerge". I was expecting this to be one among the numerous distros that comes with all sort of GUI enabled stuff, but it was not the case. For a newbie I think it has a mix of both "geeky" linux feel & the user friendliness. The user friendliness I feel is due to the documentation of Gentoo,it explains the process and also what each command does in the course of the installation.
I would know in a few days if it is really good the way it looks with its cool logo, you can expect my updates in these columns for the same. Pour in your comments if you have any...
